THE INDIAN Olympic Association chief, Suresh Kalmadi has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the upcoming India-Australia cricket match in order to avoid clash with the Commonwealth games. The Aussies will be coming to India to play two test matches and three one day internationals from October 2-24. The Commonwealth Games will begin on October 3rd and will continue till October 14.
The cricket matches that will take place in Mohali and Bangalore will clash with the Games which has 6000 athletes from 71 countries. Given the importance of the sport, there are possibilities that people will prefer to watch the cricket match over Commonwealth Games although Delhi will not host any match. The test matches are scheduled to be held in Mohali and Bangalore whereas the one day's will be played in Kochi, Vizag and Goa. The date schedule as decided by the BCCI for test match is from October 2-6 and second test will be played in October 10-14. The one day matches will be played on 19, 22 and 24 in Kochi, Goa and Vizag respectively.
Till now, the BCCI has not given any reply.
Kalmadi also said that he had spoken to BCCI and Sharad Pawar to take extra care so that there are no matches that coincide with the Games so that the it gets its share of viewership. He also had words regarding this with the sports minister of India M.S Gill.
